Write two paragraghs about a book that opened new doors for you. If the book had a profound impact on you, explain why. If the book was pleasurable for you explain in detail the pleasure you experienced.
I have enjoyed many books in my long life. I remember reading "Great Expectations" in ninth grade. I was mortified by the size of it. I never thought I would finish it. I challenged myself to complete it and I was able to. It took me an entire year. I did not finish it in time to pass any tests in English class though. After I was done with it I kept it on my nightstand for two years. I read "Siddhartha" in seventh grade. I was so moved by the self sufficiency and beauty of the characters that I ran away from home. I took the book, an apple, and my dog. I was going to hitchhike across the country to locate my destiny. I was gone for one hour; my parents did not even know I had left.
A book that opened new doors for me was Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I read it last year because my mama made me. She used to be a manager at a Barnes & Noble in Florida, so I have to read a lot of books. This was the biggest book I have ever read, and the hardest. It took me half a year to finish, but it definitely had an impact on me.
ReplyDeleteThe plot is just such an amazing idea, how one man takes on the world and wins. This book taught me one of the biggest and most important lessons in my life. It taught me to always chase after what you think is impossible, because nothing, no matter how out of reach you think it may be, is unattainable.
When I was little I read a book that impacted my life. It is called "Horton Hears A Who". This book had an impact on me because it is all about believing in yourself and following what you believe. Horton believed that their was a little world on this "spec". Nobody else believed him, they all thought he was crazy. That happens to me alot. (: People always think I am crazy. I believe in myself though so that has no effect on me. When this book came out with a movie in 2008, I was very excited because I got to visualize what I read.
ReplyDeleteMost sixteen years old' do not like to read, but I am one that does. I never liked reading very much when I was younger, but when I got to about seventh grade I started reading almost every day. I know Miss. Ramirez would disagree, but Nicholas Sparks is an author who I have always loved. He is someone who really knows how to connect with the teenagers. Some author’s books are not meant for a younger crowd to read so it is hard for us to understand. Sparks write about things that happen in our lives every day. He writes about finding love at a young age in The Notebook. He writes about following your heart and going after what you want. He touches a place in people’s heart in A Walk to Remember. The young teenage girl is suffering from cancer and she finds a boy who changes her life forever. I enjoy reading his novels being I can relate to them and they help me get through some situations. He knows how to speak to me and other younger girls. When I am having a bad day or just need to get away from my own life, I can open a Nicholas Sparks book and get wrapped in his characters life.
ReplyDeleteThis might seem weird but the book that has moved me the most would have to be The Great Gatsby. The Great Gatsby has moved me the most because it was an interesting book. It has been the only book in my entire life that I have paid close attention to. It was the fastest book I have read to. It was a great book to read and I really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteThe Great Gatsby impacting me a lot because of the fact he dies in the end. I did not like the way it ended at all. The Great Gatsby also had taught me that when you have someone you love don't make any mistakes with them. By this I mean the only reason Daisy didn't marry Gatsby was because he was poor. But in the end when they were all grown up Gatsby was rich and the guy that Daisy married who was rich at the time was poor now. The story really impacted me because of this fact. Now in life I am not going to take advantage of anything.
A book that had opened a door for me is "Death Watch". I read this book in eighth grade. It's about a young man and an old man who travel through the desert hunting game. Eventually, the old man tries to kill the young man. The young man survives and runs away. He is faced with desert troubles and has to overcome them. He does and after a year or so he gets saved and finds and kills the old man. I love this book because it interesting how he survives int he desert and how he kills the old man. I love reading and watching things that have to do with surviving by yourself or having to make traps.
ReplyDeleteThe book overall is very inspiring. It makes you want to read more and you have to know what happens next. It is very suspenseful and thrilling. This book inspires me to never give up and keep trying no matter what. Anyone can survive any situation as long as u stay calm and think of your possibilities.
Some people really enjoy reading, but personally I am not a big fan of it. Not many book that I have had to read for school have made new doors open for me. One book that has had me think about life though is "The Time Traveler's Wife". This book has made me realize that something you should really appreciate what you have because it can all be taken away from you.
ReplyDeletePeople are not thankful for what they have and then they lose it. I have always been thankful for everything that I have. Sometimes it is just the little things in life that I sometimes forget. I really should not forget about them but sometimes I do.
Its kinda weird, i use to read all the time when i was little. But when i got older i just started to not like to read i was interested in different things. Sometimes i get into the mood of reading but only if im really interested in the book. Acasinally i stop reading between chapeters and its hard for me to finish to what i already had done.
ReplyDeleteThe book that impacted me the most though would have to be the one we read last year about the lost boys. Only becasue i felt very sad for them and when we got to meet akol, i was so excited. He was interesting and made me want to go out and collect money so that they could have a well for water. I havent done anyhitng about it but i think it would be an interesting project.
Like Danielle I'm also an advid reader. I really wasn't into reading till about sixth grade when we had to read "The Shadowmakers". Immediately got into the book and finished it before the class did. Since then I've read countless books about mystery, suspense, romance, fanasty, and more.
ReplyDeleteA book that has made an impact on me was "The Last Song" by Nicholas Sparks. He has a way to make you relate to the book in some way, whether it is someone in your life who is struggling with a life threating problem or learning how to find yourself. "The Last Song" gave me a new way to look at life and to appreciate who I have as friends and family.
I am not a big reader. I did happen to find a book that I had a lot of interest in. It is called "The Winners Manual" written by Jim Tressel the coach of The Ohio State Buckeyes. This happens to be the only book that I have read without it being assigned to me.
ReplyDeleteThis book really opened my eyes and made me realize what I had to do to make myself a better person and to get myself to the college football level. How much school work matters just as much work on the field matters. It makes me push myself to become the better student and athlete.
I never really like reading at all. For some reason everything I attempt to read I would fall asleep within the first ten pages of the novel. The book that open the door for me was a book that I read in eight grade "The Outsider". We read the book as a class after we finish the book. The teacher showed us the film. Its good because I read the book and also got to see it film. Plus its always fun after you read the book you get a visual of the book better.
ReplyDeleteThe Outsider was a book basically about friendship, stereotype, and gang. Greasers rival is the Socs and these two gangs would go at it. The book open me because it shows a great deal of friendship and how they would sick by each other even when a friend is half dead. Also that if your part of a gang people might be affair of you but you can't really get anywhere with your life. This book really showed me that I have awesome friends in my life.
I hate books. I think this is the hardest topic I could have to write about. I don't think I have ever finished a book cover to cover. When I am assigned a book in school I read as much as I can but I don't think I have ever finished one.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the character that we are reading about now in Farenheit 451. He doesn't understand books and burns all books. In his world books are a waste of time.
Keep reading, Ryan.
ReplyDeleteI can not say that I enjoy reading but, I read books when it is necessary. However, there happens to be one book that I really enjoyed reading, it was Hamlet. Hamlet opened my eyes to understanding true literature.
ReplyDeleteIn hamlet there were alot of indirect characterizations. The whole idea of a man pretending to be crazy because he wants revenge is interesting to me. The book had a lot of under lying messages that you had to explore the text to get the full meaning of. I felt the story line was great and gave me a new perspectve on literature. At first I did not want to read Hamlet. On the other hand, because I read the book I enjoyed it, and I am open to reading anything by William Shakespeare.
I like to read books only if I am interested in them. If I don’t like the theme of the book then it takes a lot for me to focus on it so I can understand it. If it’s a book that interests me I can read it a lot quicker. One book that opened new doors for me was “The Blind Side”
ReplyDeleteWhen I was reading this book it showed me that even though Michael had a rough childhood he still tried his hardest and believed in himself. After reading this book it made me realize I should be thankful for everything I have like my family, a house to live in, and food to eat. One other thing is that you should give everyone a chance because even though they’re not the best now you never know where they will be in ten years.
Yo sorry, but I don't really read. I just don't seem to read a lot as much as I used to. Anyways if I have to choose I will say, Slam by Walter Dean Myers. Myer really gets my attention in this book because Greg is actually a lot like me ion real life.
ReplyDeleteThe book captures me as I read because, I also played basketball from Kindergarten all the way through 8th grade. Our grades relate a lot as well. Both our grades were the same in a descent amount of ways, they were not the best grades someone should get. We both also had friends who went down the wrong path with narcotics.
The book, I guess, gave me an enjoyable experience. It was enjoyable because I could, for once, relate to someone and understand ho he felt because I would agree that I have been through, close or pretty close, what he was going through.

One book that really opened my eyes to reality is "Monster". This book is about a young african-american male who was accused of being a murderer, but the police don't have any evidence. The book is set like a script, which makes it a lot easier to read, and that made it easier to get into the book. I could visualize what was happening in the book.
ReplyDeleteI also liked this book because I could relate to it. I have seen people in authority falsely accuse young black males only because they "look" guilty. I liked this book because it was real.
Reading is one of my least favorite activities. I only read for school, and I usually don't even finish the books. I have probably only finished about four or five whole books in my life. I struggled while reading all of them except for one.
ReplyDeleteLast year when we were able to choose which book we could read, I chose Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. This is the only book that I've ever actually wanted to come back and read more. I don't know what it was about this book that kept me hooked. I didn't learn anything from it. It is just a really captivating book. I had trouble putting it down sometimes. It is my favorite book of all time.
I am not as big of a reader as I probably should be but I do read every once in a while.
ReplyDeleteA book that had an effect on me was walk two moons. The reason that Walk Two Moons had an effect on me is that it had a deep meaning in it.
This book compares to stories about two girls mothers that have gone away at the end of the book there was a suprise. I like this book because there is similar things in life.
