  1. Plainsong by: Kent Haruf

My book has multiple characters in it. Victoria is one of them who is a teenage girl who is pregnant. The father of her baby took off and she has no idea where he is. Now she is living with two middle age farmers with no wives since her mother kicked her out of the house. Then there is Ike and Bobby two brothers in middle school who live with their dad. Their mother sleeps to much and is not around and is now moving to Denver. Even though their dad is physically there, mentally I do not think he is. He is a school teacher at the high school and when he comes home, you would think he is still there. Plainsong shares the drama and stories of a small town that has many secrets to hide, eventually everything comes out though.

  2. Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson.

Wintergirls is an amazing book so far. I think everyone can relate to the main character, Lia, very well. The book is about Lia's friend Cassie who died in an empty motel room and tried to get a hold of Lia to say goodbye and to talk with her about it but since Lia and Cassie had a falling out she did not answer her phone. She lives with the struggle of knowing she could have not died if she answered the phone and also being anorexic. I know what being anorexic is like and knowing the struggle of how hard it is to get out of it and it just breaks your heart while reading this book. Lia goes through family struggles and struggles with her friendship with Cassie. I think everyone would have a good experience from reading this and get a new understanding of life out of it.

  3. “In the Woods” by: Tana French

The main character is Adam Ryan. When he was younger he was found in the woods gripping a tree trunk, wearing sneakers full of blood, and wasn’t able to remember what happened to his two other friends that were with him playing in the woods. His family moves away from his town in Knocknaree, Ireland and goes to a boarding school where he changes his name to Robert Ryan. He becomes a murder detective and meets his crime partner Cassie Maddox, with who he becomes best friends with. He gets a murder case of a twelve year old girl who was murdered in the same woods that he was found in. He dares not to tell his boss that he is emotionally connected to the case because if he does he will be taken off of it. So while he works on the girl’s case he is slowly remembering what happened in the woods that day.

  4. AMERICAN GODS BY: NEIL GAIMAN
Ladies and Gentlemen, gather around and witness with your own eyes, the book that will shake your very soul. Shadow, the main character in this story, is released from jail and ready to start again with his wife and a new job. Everything is perfect, Shadows life seemed to be in the light. A few days before his release, he is called to the warden’s office only to find his wife died. They let him free a few days early and his life seems to have taken a turn for the worse. This is just the beginning Ladies and Gentleman, imagine what could happen next, imagine who comes along later on, and imagine who these so called gods are. The Greek Gods, the Egyptian Gods we know what these fictional gods but American Gods? So my friends read, read until your mind goes numb. American Gods is a book for you, no matter who you are.

  5. In my book it is not just about a football team. It is about a school and a town, what they go through. This town loves their football. Everywhere a player goes everyone knows who they are, for someone like Mike Winchell, he walks around town known as the qurterback as the Permian Panthers. Then there is the players lif off of the field. Texas is full of racial slurs aout the african american kids at Permian even the football players. These players are under more stress than you could ever imagine. They are expected to win nothing less than the state championship. So they go out and party, and they party with alcohol and drugs. The town knows they do but because they are the celebrity football players, or gods to the towns people, police and the authorities ignored what they did. To read how a team can be the heart and sould of a city and how they deal with adversity is simply amazing in itself.

  6. Speak: by Laurie Halse Anderson
This book is told from a first person point of view by a young girl by named Melinda Sordino. She is a freshman in High school and has absolutely no friends because she busted the end of the summer party by calling the police. No body Likes her and she never talks. She is required to meet the guidance consular with her parents and the Principal in attendance. She has this secret that she is keeping from everyone and does not know how to tell it. Art is her favorite class and is the only time she can express herself. However, she is having trouble being motivated and inspired to create a fantastic piece of art. Melinda is very lonely and has no one to turn to because no one understands how she feels. She turned an old janitors closet into a peaceful place where she can go and hide from the world. This is a very inspirational book and I highly recommend it.

  7. The Blind Side by Michael Lewis

My book so far has surprised me. The book in the first two chapters does not talk about the main character, Michael at all. The first chapter was about another guy that was in the NFL. But when you reach the third chapter it gets down to the real meaning of the book. My book is about a guy who has lost everything and is adopted by a rich family. The kid’s name is Michael. He is a huge young man. The parents enroll him into High School and he joins the football team. This is probably the best book I have ever read so far and I am not even halfway done. I highly recommend it to someone if they are a sports lover.

  8. Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson.

Wintergirls is such a good book. It is about the main character Lia that is going through a lot right now because her old best friend, Cassie just died in an motel room. Lia was anorexic and then started getting help but never stopped and is trying to live with her father, stepmother and stepsister. She get a bunch of calls from her friend Cassie but she never answered, Cassie was just trying to say goodbye. Cassie was also anorexic. Lia feels like it is her fault that Cassie is gone. She thought she could have changed it and saved her. I feel like it would be very hard to be Lia thinking that it was your fault because she did not answer her phone.

  9. Salem's Lot by Stephen King

This book is the best book I have ever read. That is a lot coming from me because when I read, it is usually just Harry Potter. Salem's Lot is about a few characters story, and their views on what is going on in the small town, Salem's Lot. The book is broken down into sections in a chapter. Each section will talk about one character, and exactly what is happening with them. This setup helps you understand each character. If you want a book with vampires that is not queer like Twilight, this is the book for you. It is very dark and sinister. I will admit, you have to have quite a strong stomach to read this book. I would go into detail, but most of it is too disturbing.

It’s about a girl, Melinda, going to a party one summer and she calls the police. The party got busted and a lot of people got in trouble. When school starts again she realizes that all her friends are extremely mad at her. They don’t know why she calls the police but the reason is because she got raped by a senior, Andy. When she walks about him his name is IT. It harasses her but she just ignores it.

  12. The book I’m reading is Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I really enjoyed this book alot. I useually dont like reading but I honestly couldnt put the book done. Its about this girl who busts a party by calling the cops on it at the end of the summer. Her friends turn against her and its the start of her freshman year. She has to meet with her school counsler and her parents because she acts up alot and everything changes. But there is a reason she called the cops at the party but you have to keep reading to find that out. At her new high school she becomes friends with this one girl at her school and it end up being her only friend but still then she is an out cast. I suggest reading this book to everyone who likes to read and or doesnt like to read.

  13. My book is called "Lockdown" by Walter Dean Myers. It is about the youth in correctional facilities, and what they go through on a daily basis. This book depicts this lifestyle how it is in the real world. Myers makes the words bigger than usual so that there aren't as many on each page. This makes it so that the readers don't get bored from seeing a flood of words. He relates to the youth from certain backgrounds, and appeals to them so that they read books. One person actually said "If it weren't for Myers books, I would not read."

  14. Skin Hunger by Kathleen Duey

This book is fantastic so far. If you have a sci-fi imagination you would particularly love this book. It is about a family of magicians that has to go out of it's way to save their father. I don't know why but this book reminds me a lot of twilight and other mystic, fantasy books like that. This book never fails to remain suspenseful. I enjoy it a lot.

  15. Invislble Man by Ralph Ellison

So far the book is alright, ther are a lot of intresting parts and charaters, but some of it is boring. It takes place in the 1950s. It about a black mans life and how his experinces change him through life. In the beginning of the book the main character explain how he is invislble to the world but not physically.

  17. "Life of Pi" Yann Martel.
Life of Pi is an amazing story about how the mystery of faith is universal. Meaning, that whatever religion with which you associate yourself, everyone has their own take on faith. When our story begins, Pi is a young boy working in his father's zoo. He is raised Hindu, later baptized Catholic, and finally, after talking to a Muslim monk, joins the muslim faith as well. One does not replace the other, rather they add to each other and they all guide Pi further down the narrow path with which he can acquire a deeper faith.
